Set against the backdrop of Edwardian London, this 1970s period drama was created by John 'Upstairs, Downstairs' Hawkesworth and tells the story of ambitious cook Louisa Leyton (Gemma Jones). Loosely based on the real-life career of Rosa Lewis, The Duchess of Duke Street follows the fortunes of Louisa, born into poverty, but determined to become a renowned chef. Working her way up through the ranks, she eventually catches the attention of The Prince of Wales, later to be crowned King Edward VII. But just as opportunties present themselves, tragic setbacks are just around the corner. With lashings of romance, intrigue and examinations of social and class mores, The Duchess Of Duke Street is the original Downton Abbey.
