RULE 1: LEARN TO DEFEND YOURSELF
The reign of the infamous Jack the Ripper may be over, but that doesn't mean you're allowed to let your guard down in Whitechapel.
Whether it's the shady men from K Division, violent vigilantes or lawless mobs, there will always be someone in Ripper Street looking to pick a fight... You'd better learn to defend yourself, and learn quick!
As hard as the men of H Division try to uphold the law peacefully, force is sometimes necessary.
RULE 2: DON'T GIVE UP ON LOVE
Reid's marriage has fallen apart at the seams while Jackson and Drake's respective relationships may be set to follow the same course, but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel in Ripper Street.
Jane helps Reid get back on course n learning to love again, and Rose could eventually do the same for Drake. Never lose hope - your loved ones will help you carry on in even the bleakest of times. Don't give up on love.
Victorians may be prim and proper, but our characters wear their hearts on their sleeves.
RULE 3: TRUST NO ONE
We all know by now that anyone in Ripper Street can turn out to be a traitor.
As loyal as he seems to our H Division, the inscrutable Flight has got a dubious side operation. Even the ones you love can let you down at the worst of times - just look at what Jackson did to Long Susan.
In Whitechapel, it's every man or woman for themselves... Trust no one.
How many times have we seen our H Division heroes stabbed in the back?
RULE 4: KEEP YOUR SECRET... WHATEVER THE COST
With people like hack journalist Fred Best constantly hunting for a juicy scandal, it can be difficult to keep your secrets under wraps and out of sight. But when the truth comes out there can be no going back, and it usually ends in tears - as it does for Bella.
Conceal your secrets and keep them safe from the watchful eyes of the residents of Whitechapel... Whatever the cost.
In a city of resolute detectives and relentless journalists keeping the truth hidden is difficult.
RULE 5: DON'T GIVE IN TO EVIL
On Ripper Street, evil is everywhere. It can be a blatant, merciless, unstoppable evil, like Victor Silver's, or it can be a little more subtle, like K Division's Jedediah Shine.
Even the best of men are often drawn into the shadows, with even the apparently unwavering Reid occasionally losing his control. But don't let yourself be corrupted, don't give in to evil however tempting it may be.
From the Golden Dawn to the ruthless K Division, evil is everywhere threatening to corrupt even the purist people.
