That isn’t to say she doesn’t care, she just has a ‘stuff and nonsense’ approach that gets the job done. Robust in form and in nature, she often clashes with her colleagues, especially Sister Monica Joan, who comes from an altogether different, more privileged background.
Sister Evangelina is played by Pam Ferris
Born in Hanover, Germany then raised in Wales and New Zealand, Pam returned to the UK in her twenties and continued her work in regional theatre.
Her big break came when she was cast as Ma Larkin in ITV’s production of The Darling Buds of May in 1991. She has since become one of our most popular actors, with roles such as an unlikely sleuth in Rosemary and Thyme, the scary teacher Miss Agatha Trunchbull in Matilda and the horrid Aunt Marge in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
She has also appeared in numerous costume dramas, including Middlemarch, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Our Mutual Friend, The Turn of the Screw, Pollyanna and Jane Eyre.
