Barbara Taylor Bradford was born and raised in Leeds, where she attended the Christ Church, C of E School, alongside fellow writer-to-be Alan Bennett. Bradford left school at 16 to work as a typist at the Yorkshire Evening News. Here she rose through the ranks to become the editor of the new women’s page. She left to become the Fashion Editor at Woman’s Own Magazine. She quit journalism to concentrate on her novel writing.

A Woman of Substance

According to the 2009 Sunday Times Rich List, Bradford had an estimated wealth of approximately £166 million, making her the 31st wealthiest woman in Britain. In 2007, Bradford was awarded the OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.
