Sister Bernadette

Closer in age to the secular midwives than to her fellow nuns, Sister Bernadette gets on well with Jenny, Trixie and Cynthia.

Sister Bernadette

Sister Bernadette has a no-nonsense approach to her work and is often used as the young midwives' sounding board, the person they turn to for advice.

She develops a keen interest in the love lives of the young girls and at one point expresses a desire to let her hair down and be as carefree as Trixie. Such thoughts confuse the often serious nun and come to a head when she begins to care for Dr. Patrick Turner.

Sister Bernadette is played by Laura Main

Like Helen George who plays Trixie, Laura Main has a background in musical theatre. At the age of 11 she appeared in a production of The Sound of Music as one of the Von Trappe children, and at 13 landed her first leading role in Annie.

Since studying at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London, Laura has appeared in many Royal Shakespeare Company productions as well as in the Stephen Sondheim musical Company. She has also recorded songs for the Call the Midwife album
